Things you always wanted to ask us
eople keep on asking questions, sometimes they don’t ask us. For all such people, here are some FAQs answered. If your question is not here, do let us know. We will include an answer, if it deserves one.
Q. What is the procedure of IndiBloggies?
A. The Indibloggies methodology had been changing every year. It’s still a 2-stage process, similar to the 2004 edition. In the 2004 event, Jurors were the ones who nominated all those blogs. We still have Jurors, but the nominations were an open process. Anybody could nominate any number of blogs or sites. The jurors then “rate” all these blogs on a scale of -1 to 5. The final scores are calculated based on all these ratings. The top N (N is not a steadfast number and would be decided based on the category) blogs/sites in each category will make it to the final shortlist, and the readers, i.e. you, get to vote on that. No jury there.
Q. What if the site I wish to nominate has already been bookmarked by me at del.icio.us?
A. Easy, del.icio.us allows multiple tags and even allows you to edit the tags. Just add the tags required by Indibloggies to the existing ones.
Q. Can I nominate any blog other than mine?
A. Absolutely. Nevertheless, before you do that we recommend you ask the Blog Author/owner whether they want to participate in the awards.
Q. Can I nominate my own blog?
A. Why not! Infact as the blog owner you are the best person to nominate your blog in a relevant award category. Self-nomination also implies your willingness to participate in the competition.
Q. Why have a jury at all, why not voting straight away?
A. We didn’t want this to be just a simple popularity contest. We felt there should be an element of subjectivity involved. A peer review also helps separating the wheat from chaff, if you will. Also, if we had straight voting, the already-popular blogs would have taken all the prizes. This way, the jury gets a chance to dig out some hidden jewels from the blogs people nominate. And discovering new talent as well as honouring existing excellence are the main purposes of these awards.
Q. Can the Jury participate in the awards?
A. Starting 2006 event the Jurors are forbidden from participating in the awards for that year. Also they cannot rate any collaborative site/blog that they are associated with.
Q. Can the Jurors rate a blog/site that has not been nominated?
A. The Jury is there to ensure that only the best of the best blogs make it to the Public poll phase. If they spot a deserving blog they may decide to rate it, but before that the blog/site would still have to be nominated by them, the usual way.
Q. Can the Jurors nominate a blog/site?
A. Yes they can, but they should not nominate any blog/site they are
associated with.
Q. I won an award in a past Indibloggies event. Can my blog participate again in the awards?
A. Yes. Past winners can participate again.
Q. My blog is much better than the listed ones, why wasn’t it shortlisted?
A. Did you or anybody else nominate the blog using del.icio.us? We don’t consider blogs that are not nominated. If it was nominated it is the prerogative of the Jury to include you if they liked your blog. Emphasis in on quality and not quantity and judging quality is a subjective affair.
Q. I am offended by my blog being listed here. I am not for limelight.
A. Tell us well in advance and if voting hasn’t started yet we would certainly remove your blog from the short listed sites. No questions asked!
Q. I want to sponsor an award/donate for hosting of this blog on its own domain. How do I go about it?
A. We are flattered! Just let us know and we will get back to you.
